Karachi, February 9, 2026 — Standard Chartered Bank, in partnership with the Karachi United Foundation, has successfully concluded the eighth edition of the Standard Chartered Karachi United Youth Football League, reaffirming its commitment to youth development and grassroots sports in Pakistan.

The four-month-long tournament, which began in October 2025, featured 1,400 boys and girls, representing 78 teams from underserved communities across Karachi. A total of 204 matches were played during the season, making it one of the largest and most competitive youth football initiatives in the country.

Over the past eight years, the league has grown into Pakistan’s largest youth football competition, engaging more than 9,000 young players and expanding across 11 community centers. The initiative aims to provide a safe and inclusive platform for young athletes, promote teamwork, and foster the spirit of competition while breaking social and economic barriers.

Tasneem Mirza, Head of Community Impact & Engagement at Standard Chartered Pakistan, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, stating that the bank’s partnership with Karachi United reflects its belief in empowering young people through sports. She emphasized that the league has played a transformative role in shaping opportunities for thousands of children across Karachi.

Imran Ali, CEO of Karachi United, noted the league’s remarkable growth since its launch in 2017, when it began with just over 600 participants. He praised the tournament’s focus on inclusion—particularly its efforts to expand opportunities for girls—and its integration of football with community engagement and social action programs.

“This league has evolved beyond a competition into a platform that builds confidence, nurtures talent, and creates meaningful opportunities,” Ali said, adding that the continued support from Standard Chartered has been instrumental in expanding its reach and impact.

As the eighth season comes to a close, organizers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening youth football in Pakistan, positioning the league as a powerful tool for social change and long-term community development.
