In a significant development ahead of the upcoming Pakistan Super League season, Multan Sultans have appointed Shan Masood as vice- captain for PSL 11.

The announcement was made on the team’s official social media platforms, accompanied by a video reveal. The post caption read: “Your Vice Captain – Shan Masood. Back where he belongs,” signaling both his leadership role and emotional return to the side he previously led in 2020.

Masood, who currently serves as Pakistan’s Test captain, brings prior experience with the Sultans, having led the side during the 2020 season. Under his captaincy, the team secured six wins in 12 matches and reached the final, only to fall short against Peshawar Zalmi by 47 runs.

Meanwhile, the franchise has also confirmed that Australian all-rounder Ashton Turner will lead the squad this season. Turner, widely regarded as a T20 specialist, boasts an impressive résumé across global leagues including the Big Bash League, The Hundred, IPL, SA20, and CPL. Despite a modest showing in last year’s PSL—scoring 15 runs in three appearances—he has been entrusted with guiding the team in a transitional phase.

Turner takes over from Mohammad Rizwan, who captained the Sultans in 58 matches, winning 33 of them. Rizwan notably led the franchise to their maiden PSL title in 2021, defeating Peshawar Zalmi in the final. However, for PSL 11, Rizwan will represent and captain the newly formed franchise Pindiz.

The developments come amid a dramatic restructuring phase for the Sultans. The original franchise was acquired by the Walee Group and rebranded as Pindiz, casting uncertainty over Multan’s presence in the league. However, in a late turnaround on March 3, the team formerly known as the Sialkot Stallionz was rebranded back to Multan Sultans following a majority takeover by CD Ventures.

The franchise’s ownership reshuffle saw CEO Gohar Shah acquire a controlling stake from OZ Developers, pushing the team’s valuation to an estimated PKR 2 billion and ensuring its participation in PSL 11.

With a squad featuring international stars like Steve Smith, Tabraiz Shamsi, Josh Philippe, and Peter Siddle alongside local talent, the revamped Multan Sultans will be aiming to reclaim their dominance in the league under new leadership dynamics.

As PSL 11 approaches, all eyes will be on how Masood and Turner navigate a team reborn through both structural and strategic change.
