Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has praised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for appointing Shaan Masood as the Director of International and Players’ Affairs, describing it as a “great choice” and a move that reflects progress and modern thinking in Pakistan cricket.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Afridi congratulated Shaan Masood and applauded the PCB for showing confidence in current players who understand the modern game’s challenges.
Afridi supports Shaan Masood and calls for Sarfaraz Ahmed’s inclusion in PCB leadership
“Congratulations to Shaan Masood on being appointed as the International Director of PCB, a great choice. I recommend Sarfaraz Ahmed would be an excellent fit to lead domestic cricket,” Afridi wrote.
Afridi added that only cricketers truly understand the demands of the dressing room, emphasizing that these leadership positions should be entrusted to players with firsthand experience.
“Only cricketers truly understand the challenges and needs of their fellow players. These roles couldn’t be in better hands. Great to see PCB making thoughtful and forward-looking decisions for Pakistan cricket.”
Afridi’s statement comes as the PCB continues to involve current and former players in administrative and consultative roles, an initiative welcomed across the cricket community.
Shaan Masood, who also captains Pakistan’s Test team, is expected to act as a bridge between players and the board, focusing on international relations, player welfare, and policy development.
Afridi’s endorsement of Sarfaraz Ahmed for a leadership role in domestic cricket further underlines his belief in empowering experienced cricketers who have served Pakistan with distinction, ensuring the system benefits from their on-field wisdom and leadership qualities.
