Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan has been crowned the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for February 2026, capping off a sensational run in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 that has firmly placed him among the elite performers in modern T20 cricket.
The International Cricket Council announced the accolade on Monday, praising Farhan’s “stellar display with the bat” during the marquee tournament held in Sri Lanka. The right-hander emerged as the leading run-scorer of the competition, amassing a staggering 383 runs in just seven matches at an average of 76.60.
Farhan’s campaign was marked by both consistency and explosiveness. His tally included two centuries and two half-centuries, underlined by an impressive strike rate of 160.25. In the process, he surpassed a long-standing record previously held by Virat Kohli for the most runs in a single edition of a T20 World Cup — a milestone that further highlights the magnitude of his achievement.
This recognition makes Farhan the first Pakistani male cricketer to win the monthly ICC award since Haris Rauf in November 2024. Notably, he was also the only Pakistani player named in the 12-member Team of the Tournament, reflecting his individual brilliance in an otherwise mixed campaign for the national side.
Reacting to the honour, Farhan described the moment as deeply special. “It’s an incredible feeling to win this ICC award, especially for performances on the World Cup stage, where fans from all over the world are watching every moment,” he said. He credited his teammates for their unwavering support and expressed determination to carry forward his rich vein of form.
The tournament also saw Farhan achieve several other milestones. He became the first batter to score two centuries in a single T20 World Cup edition, with memorable knocks against Namibia and the co-hosts Sri Lanka. His remarkable consistency propelled him to a career-best second position in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings.
One of the standout moments of his campaign came in a record-breaking 176-run partnership with Fakhar Zaman — the highest stand for any wicket in T20 Internationals. Despite their heroics, Pakistan narrowly missed out on a semi-final berth, edged out on net run rate despite a thrilling five-run win over Sri Lanka.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi hailed Farhan’s achievement as a proud moment for the country. In an official statement, he lauded the opener’s dedication and professionalism, expressing hope that Farhan would maintain consistency in future assignments.
Farhan’s rise marks a significant boost for Pakistan cricket, offering a glimpse of a promising future built around fearless batting and match-winning performances on the global stage.
