Ronaldo makes World Cup history as Portugal crush Uzbekistan 5-0

Cristiano Ronaldo delivered another historic performance on the biggest stage in football, scoring twice as Portugal demolished Uzbekistan 5-0 to strengthen their position at the top of Group K.

The 41-year-old superstar etched his name deeper into football history by becoming the first player ever to score in six different FIFA World Cups, a feat unmatched by any player before him.

The victory marked a strong response from Portugal after their disappointing 1-1 draw against DR Congo in their opening group-stage encounter. With four points from two matches, Portugal now sit atop Group K and are in a commanding position to qualify for the knockout rounds.

Ronaldo’s historic evening also brought

personal records. The Portugal captain became both the youngest and oldest goalscorer in his country’s World Cup history and surpassed Lionel Messi as the oldest player ever to score a brace in a World Cup match.

Despite the convincing win, Portugal’s final group-stage match against Colombia on Saturday remains crucial. Roberto Martínez’s side could still finish anywhere from first to third in the group, although a top-two finish now appears highly likely.

The winners of Group K will travel to Kansas City for a Round-of-32 clash on July 3 against one of the best third-placed teams from Groups D, E, I, J or L. The runners-up will face the second-placed team from Group L in Toronto on July 2.

For Ronaldo, however, the night belonged to history. Decades after announcing himself as a teenage prodigy, the Portuguese icon continues to rewrite football’s record books, proving once again that age has done little to diminish his ability to shine on the world’s biggest stage.
