Pindi franchise backs PSL shift to two cities, puts ‘Pakistan First’ amid crisis

In a strong show of unity, the Pindi franchise has thrown its full support behind the Pakistan Super League decision to limit matches to Lahore and Karachi, citing the ongoing fuel crisis and the need for nationwide austerity measures.

The franchise, which had been eagerly anticipating hosting matches in Rawalpindi, acknowledged the disappointment for local fans but stressed that the current situation demands collective responsibility and national unity.

Speaking on behalf of the franchise, team owner Ahsan Tahir emphasized that while the team was looking forward to playing in front of its passionate home crowd, the broader national interest must take precedence.

“Sabse Pehle Pakistan,” he stated, reaffirming the franchise’s commitment to the country. “We were excited to give the people of Pindi a home team experience in their own stadium. However, we fully recognize that this is the need of the hour. As a franchise, we stand firmly behind the HBL PSL and its efforts to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the tournament under these circumstances.”

The decision aligns with recent measures taken by the Pakistan Cricket Board, under the leadership of chairman Mohsin Naqvi, to minimize movement, cut costs, and ensure the continuity of the league despite challenging conditions.

Reiterating their long-term commitment, the Pindi franchise expressed confidence that the tournament will continue to deliver high-quality cricket and bring fans together, even if from a distance. The management also highlighted that with collective support, the league can overcome current hurdles and maintain its stature as Pakistan’s premier T20 competition.

While fans in Rawalpindi may miss out this season, the franchise remains hopeful that future editions will restore home fixtures and rekindle the electric atmosphere the city is known for.
