The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has been directed by the Ministry of Finance to resubmit its request for government funding for the FIH Pro League 2026, with a renewed focus on the benefits of participation for the national team.

In a key meeting on Wednesday, PHF Secretary Rana Mujahid met with Finance Ministry officials to discuss the financial assistance needed for the mega international tournament. However, the Ministry advised PHF to refine the proposal originally submitted via the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

“Some changes are required in the documents already submitted to the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) and the Ministry of Finance,” a senior official confirmed. “PHF has been asked to clarify certain points and submit a fresh request by Tuesday.”

The matter was earlier tabled during a high-level meeting chaired by PM’s Advisor on IPC Rana Sanaullah, attended by IPC Secretary Mohyuddin Wani, PHF Secretary Rana Mujahid, and representatives from both the Finance Ministry and PSB. It was decided that final financial estimates would be drafted in collaboration with Finance Ministry officials.

Speaking to media, Rana Mujahid said the revised documents will be submitted within a couple of days. He also proposed that the government directly manage the financial logistics—covering player travel, lodging, meals, and daily allowances.

“Our goal is to give players consistent international exposure. Participating in the FIH Pro League 2026 will help raise Pakistan’s global hockey ranking and improve the overall standard of the game,” Mujahid added. “The players are hungry for year-round competition. To stay among the world’s elite, Pakistan must feature in the Pro League.”

The PHF has positioned this opportunity as a long-term investment in player development and global performance—a pitch the government may consider given the revival efforts for Pakistan hockey.
