Mohamed Salah set to join Trabzonspor on free transfer after Liverpool exit

Turkish giants Trabzonspor are on the verge of completing one of the biggest transfers in the club’s history after reaching an agreement to sign Mohamed Salah on a free transfer following his departure from Liverpool FC.

The club officially confirmed on Tuesday that negotiations with the Egyptian superstar are underway, bringing an end to nearly ten days of discussions. Salah is expected to sign a two-year contract that will keep him at Trabzonspor until June 2028.

The 34-year-old reportedly turned down lucrative offers from both the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer (MLS), opting instead for a new challenge in Turkey’s Trendyol Süper Lig.

According to reports, Salah is scheduled to arrive in Istanbul for medical examinations before travelling to Trabzon to finalize the deal. Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan expressed his excitement over the move, describing Salah as a global superstar whose arrival would represent a landmark moment for the club.

Financially, the agreement is believed to be among the most lucrative in Turkish football history. Salah is expected to earn between $17 million and $18.5 million annually, with some reports also claiming the deal includes a signing bonus worth around $5 million.

Landing Salah without paying a transfer fee is seen as a major statement of intent from Trabzonspor, who hope the arrival of one of world football’s biggest stars will strengthen their ambitions both in domestic competition and in Europe.
