The defending champions, Lahore Qalandars, kicked off their Pakistan Super League 2026 campaign in commanding fashion, crushing debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen by 69 runs in a one-sided contest.

Chasing a daunting target of 200, Hyderabad Kingsmen endured a nightmare start to their PSL journey, collapsing to 130 all out. Their much-anticipated batting lineup failed to deliver, with Usman Khan (9), Saim Ayub (17), Marnus Labuschagne (26 off 22), and Kusal Perera (1) all falling cheaply under pressure.

Lahore’s bowling unit proved too strong, with a collective effort dismantling the opposition. Haris Rauf led the charge with 2/22, while Ubaid Shah and Sikandar Raza also picked up two wickets each. Shaheen Afridi and Mustafizur Rahman chipped in with one wicket apiece, maintaining relentless pressure throughout the innings.

Earlier in the match, Lahore Qalandars set the tone with a strong batting display after opting to bat first. Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Naeem stitched together a fluent 84-run opening partnership, providing a solid platform. Zaman top-scored with a composed 53 off 39 deliveries, guiding Lahore to 94/2 at the halfway stage.

The momentum was sustained in the latter half of the innings, as Haseebullah Khan smashed 40 off 28 balls, while Raza’s explosive 24 off just 10 deliveries propelled Lahore to an imposing total of 199/6.

With this emphatic victory, Lahore Qalandars have sent a strong message to the rest of the competition, while Hyderabad Kingsmen will need to regroup quickly after a disappointing introduction to PSL cricket.
