Pakistan Shaheen coach praises structured preparations at NCA

KARACHI: With the Pakistan Shaheen squad preparing for their upcoming international tour, head coach Imran Farhat emphasized the structured and disciplined approach adopted at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to groom players for the national team.

Addressing a press conference at National Bank Cricket Stadium, Farhat clarified the coaching staff’s responsibilities, separating them from the selection process.

“No, there’s nothing like that,” Farhat said, dismissing suggestions of coaching interference in selection matters. “As coaches, it’s our duty to prepare the players we receive from the selection committee. That’s our job.”

He added that the NCA’s role is purely focused on player development, not selection.

“If there are any issues with selection or if a player is not selected, then that’s a matter for the selection committee. Only they can answer those questions.”

Structured training and player development

Farhat proudly shared that the NCA has been operating in an organized and professional manner over the past month and a half, setting new standards in training and preparation.

“The players we currently have are quite well-developed. The NCA has been running in a structured and organized way for the past one and a half months,” he stated. “A benchmark has been set, and we are working to develop our players according to that standard and prepare them for the national team.”

According to the head coach, the training program encompasses all cricket formats and follows a format-specific development plan.

Rigorous daily schedule

Farhat also detailed the comprehensive training routine followed during the camp, highlighting the involvement of the entire NCA coaching and support panel.

“We’ve conducted proper physical training sessions. Everyone is doing their jobs, the coaches, the trainers, all are fulfilling their responsibilities. From 5 AM to 5 PM, the players have had a full-day activity schedule,” he revealed.

The training regimen has included physical conditioning, skill-based drills, video analysis, and one-on-one sessions tailored to each player's needs.

“Whatever was required for each player was fulfilled in that one and a half month period,” Farhat shared. “For those who still need development, the work is ongoing. A daily performance check is being maintained.”

He credited the dedication of the entire NCA staff and emphasized their commitment to ensuring players are fully equipped to perform at the highest level.

“Whatever was missing, we are trying our best to complete it so that there are no issues in the future,” he concluded.
