The International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed serious concern following reports that the Government of Pakistan has instructed its national team to selectively participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

In an official press release, the ICC confirmed it has taken note of the statement made by the Pakistani government, while clarifying that it is still awaiting formal communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on the matter.

The ICC emphasized that selective participation contradicts the core principles of global sporting events, where all qualified teams are expected to compete under a unified schedule and on equal terms. According to the governing body, ICC tournaments are founded on sporting integrity, competitiveness, consistency, and fairness—values that could be compromised by any form of partial involvement.

While acknowledging the role of governments in shaping national policy, the ICC stated that such a decision does not align with the broader interests of international cricket or the welfare of fans worldwide, including the millions of cricket followers in Pakistan.

The council also urged the PCB to carefully evaluate the long-term consequences of this stance, noting that Pakistan is an integral member and beneficiary of the global cricket ecosystem. Any disruption, the ICC warned, could have ripple effects beyond a single tournament.

Reaffirming its commitment to the successful organization of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, the ICC stressed that responsibility lies with all member boards, including the PCB. It called on Pakistan’s cricket authorities to engage constructively and seek a mutually acceptable solution that safeguards the interests of all stakeholders involved.
