Mohammad Amir set to enter the PSL 2027 auction as an overseas player after acquiring British citizenship?

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has confirmed that he will register as an overseas player for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2027 auction after obtaining British citizenship, marking a significant change in his PSL status.
The 34-year-old left-arm pacer, who currently represents Trent Rockets in The Hundred, revealed that his newly acquired British passport means he will no longer be classified as a local player in the PSL. The change also allows him to participate in The Hundred as a domestic English-qualified player.
Amir, who has previously represented Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators and Rawalpindi Raiders in the PSL, is expected to enter the 2027 player auction as a foreign player. His switch follows his acquisition of British citizenship earlier this year. His wife, Narjis Khan, is also a British citizen.
The development has also sparked speculation about Amir’s eligibility for the Indian Premier League (IPL). While Pakistani players have traditionally been barred from participating in the tournament, his British passport makes him technically eligible under nationality rules. However, there has been no confirmation regarding any future IPL involvement.
Amir remains one of the PSL’s most successful bowlers, having taken 98 wickets in 94 matches at an average of 27.09 since the league’s inaugural season in 2016. He currently sits among the tournament’s all-time leading wicket-takers.
The former Pakistan international, who retired from international cricket in 2020 after playing 36 Tests, 61 One-Day Internationals and 62 T20 Internationals, has also impressed in this year’s edition of The Hundred. He recently produced a match-winning spell with two crucial wickets as Trent Rockets defeated Sunrisers Leeds by five runs.
Amir has claimed five wickets so far in the competition, helping Trent Rockets climb to the top of the league standings with four wins from five matches. He is expected to return to action on August 5 when Trent Rockets host Birmingham Phoenix.
