Lahore, April 2, 2026: The Pakistan Super League (HBL PSL) Technical Committee has upheld the two-match suspension of Lahore Qalandars’ opening batter Fakhar Zaman after dismissing his appeal against a Level 3 offence.

Fakhar was initially sanctioned by match referee Roshan Mahanama for breaching Article 2.14 of the HBL PSL Code of Conduct during Lahore Qalandars’ clash against Karachi Kings on March 29 at Gaddafi Stadium. The charge relates to altering the condition of the ball, a violation of Clause 41.3 of the league’s playing conditions.

Seeking relief, Fakhar lodged an appeal, which was heard on April 2 by a three-member Technical Committee comprising Professor Javed Malik, Dr Mumraiz Naqshband, and Syed Ali Naqi. After conducting a fresh (de novo) review of the case, examining evidence, and hearing submissions from all relevant parties, the committee ruled to dismiss the appeal and maintain the original punishment.

“The Committee, after thorough deliberation, has upheld the decision of the match referee,” the PSL said in an official statement.

Under the HBL PSL Code of Conduct, a Level 3 offence carries a minimum penalty of a one-match ban and can extend up to two matches for a first-time violation. Fakhar’s two-match suspension represents the maximum penalty within that range.

The decision is final and binding, with no further avenue for appeal under PSL regulations.

The absence of Fakhar Zaman is a significant blow for Lahore Qalandars, who will now have to adjust their top order in crucial upcoming fixtures as the tournament progresses.

The incident has once again brought player conduct and adherence to playing conditions into the spotlight, reinforcing the league’s strict stance on maintaining the integrity of the game.
