Zimbabwe T20I captain Sikandar Raza has firmly responded to comments made by former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim regarding his dramatic return for the Pakistan Super League final, rejecting suggestions that financial incentives influenced his decision.

The controversy dates back to last year’s PSL final, when Raza rejoined Lahore Qalandars just minutes before the toss after featuring in a one-off Test match for Zimbabwe against England in Nottingham.

At the time, Imad had sparked debate with candid remarks, suggesting that financial rewards often drive players to push their limits, saying that “money can do things for you” when it comes to participation in franchise cricket.

However, Raza has now dismissed that narrative, emphasizing that his decision was based on personal values rather than financial gain. He stated that respect, honour, and loyalty were his true motivations, adding that he actually suffered a financial loss due to missing earlier matches.

Raza’s commitment ultimately proved crucial as Lahore Qalandars, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, secured their third PSL title with a thrilling six-wicket victory over Quetta Gladiators.

Chasing a target of 202, Lahore made a strong start through Mohammad Naeem, who scored 47, while Abdullah Shafique contributed 41 to keep the chase on track.

As pressure mounted, Raza once again rose to the occasion, shifting momentum with key boundaries. Thisara Perera also played a vital role with a quick half-century.

With 13 runs required in the final over, Raza held his nerve, striking a four and a six to seal the victory with one ball remaining, underlining his importance to the team and silencing criticism over his commitment.
