Shoaib Akhtar denies reports of new PCB role

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has denied reports that he is set to take up a major position in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), including the role of chief selector.
Speaking to PTV Sports from Houston, Akhtar clarified that he has neither met PCB officials nor shown any interest in joining the board.
The host referred to Akhtar’s earlier statement that he would never take a position in the PCB or politics, before asking him about reports linking him with a senior PCB role.
Responding to the reports, Akhtar said there was “no truth” in the news and confirmed that he had not held any meeting regarding a position in the PCB.
“I have not had any meeting. I am not at all interested in going to the board,” Akhtar said.
The former speedster also dismissed reports claiming that he was being appointed chief selector or offered another major position, joking about speculation surrounding the amount of money he had allegedly demanded.
“Everything is fake, there is no truth,” he said.
Akhtar reiterated that he would continue to focus on the Pakistan cricket team, the PCB and the betterment of Pakistan cricket, rather than taking up an official position.
“I am just going to keep on [focusing on] Pakistan Cricket Team, Pakistan Cricket Board and the betterment of Pakistan cricket, and that’s about it really,” he said.
He further stated that the reports circulating on social media were not true, effectively putting to rest speculation about his alleged appointment to a senior PCB role.
