Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has expressed disappointment over the treatment of former cricketers in Pakistan, saying that legends of the game do not receive the same level of respect from the country’s cricket authorities and current players.

Speaking during a discussion about how former players are honoured in India, Akhtar praised the way Indian cricket celebrates its past heroes. He pointed out that during major events and celebrations, legendary cricketers such as Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, and Kapil Dev are invited and acknowledged for their contributions to the sport.

“How beautifully they respect their former players; they invited Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, and Kapil Dev. They celebrated together as a unit,” Akhtar said.

The former speedster contrasted this with the situation in Pakistan, where he believes many legendary cricketers are often overlooked.

“Honestly, I feel for former Pakistani players; they never get respect from the board or even from the current players,” he added.

Akhtar’s remarks have sparked discussion among cricket fans and analysts about the role of the Pakistan Cricket Board in preserving the legacy of past players and maintaining strong relationships with former stars of the game.

Pakistan has produced numerous cricket legends who have contributed to the country’s rich history in international cricket. However, critics often argue that these former players are not sufficiently involved in official events, decision-making processes, or celebrations compared with practices seen in other cricketing nations.

Akhtar’s comments have once again brought attention to the broader debate about respect, recognition, and the importance of maintaining connections between past and present generations of cricketers.
