Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of the remainder of the Big Bash League after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recalled the left-arm pacer to complete his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore.

The development has raised serious concerns among fans and experts, as it revives memories of the injury setback Shaheen suffered in 2022, an episode that significantly impacted his pace, swing, and overall bowling biomechanics. That injury forced him into a long recovery phase, during which he struggled to rediscover the explosive rhythm that once made him one of the most feared fast bowlers in world cricket.

If the current injury is to the same knee that troubled him in 2022, it could pose a major threat to his long-term career. Even if it involves the other knee, the situation remains alarming, as it would mean both knees have now endured significant stress, a worrying sign for a fast bowler whose game relies heavily on a powerful run-up and strong front-foot landing.

With the T20 World Cup approaching, pressure is expected to mount on team management, but the PCB must resist the urge to rush Shaheen back into competitive cricket if the injury proves serious. History has shown that premature returns can do more harm than good, especially for fast bowlers.

Shaheen Shah Afridi has shared a heartfelt message thanking the Big Bash League and Brisbane Heat for their immenses of support and warmth during his time in Australia. The Pakistan fast bowler expressed deep gratitude to the Heat fans for the immense love he received, and appreciated the team management and players for their exceptional hospitality. While sidelined by an unexpected injury, Shaheen said he will continue to cheer for the franchise during his recovery and hopes to cross paths with them again in the future.
