Shadab Khan’s maiden ODI century powers Pakistan to thrilling win over England

Shadab Khan produced a remarkable comeback under pressure, scoring his maiden One-day International (ODI) century to guide Pakistan to a thrilling victory over England in the ODI tri-series at Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.
With Pakistan on the brink of defeat and only one wicket remaining, Shadab displayed exceptional composure and courage to bring his team within touching distance of victory, turning a seemingly lost contest into a memorable triumph.
With Haris Rauf holding firm at the other end, Pakistan needed 27 runs when Shadab swept Gus Atkinson over fine leg for a six. However, the celebrations were short-lived as Atkinson struck Shadab on the pads with the next delivery, prompting a loud appeal from the England players. The umpire raised his finger, leaving Pakistan’s hopes hanging in the balance.
Shadab immediately reviewed the decision, despite appearing to have little hope of overturning it. UltraEdge, however, revealed a spike as the ball passed the bat, overturning the on-field decision and giving the batter a crucial reprieve.
Relieved by the decision, Shadab responded emphatically, driving Atkinson for four between short third and backward point to complete his maiden ODI century off just 91 balls.
He followed it up by whipping another full delivery through square leg for four before negotiating two dot balls. Shadab then launched Atkinson over long-off for six, leaving Pakistan needing just one hit to seal the victory.
Haris Rauf, who had faced 18 deliveries for his unbeaten three runs, finished the job in the following over by drilling debutant Henry Crocombe straight down the ground for four.
Shadab’s courageous innings proved decisive in a contest that appeared to be slipping away from Pakistan. His century and composure under immense pressure highlighted his ability to deliver when his team needed him most, while Haris provided valuable support at the other end to complete a dramatic victory.
