KARACHI: Head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed has expressed confidence in Pakistan’s preparations for the upcoming Test assignment against Bangladesh national cricket team, as the squad gathered for a training camp in Karachi.

Speaking to media on Tuesday, Sarfaraz said the camp had been structured to maximise preparation, with players split across morning and evening sessions focusing on nets, fielding, and skill work. He added that several players would join the camp in phases due to ongoing commitments in the Pakistan Super League.

“Those involved in the PSL will link up with the squad once they are free, while a majority of the players are already joining the camp,” he said, noting that around a dozen players were expected to be available immediately.

The former Pakistan captain, who has been working with the red-ball setup for the past several months, highlighted the importance of creating a positive environment for players. He credited the Pakistan Cricket Board and the National Cricket Academy for providing strong support to the coaching staff.

“Our focus is to give players the best possible environment so they can perform on the field,” Sarfaraz said. “I’ve spent time with the players individually to build understanding and communication.”

Addressing team selection, Sarfaraz emphasised rewarding domestic performers, pointing to emerging players who have consistently delivered in first-class cricket. He added that selection decisions are made collectively, with input from all stakeholders.

The head coach also spoke positively about Babar Azam, praising his current form and technique. “He is batting very well, and that’s a great sign for Pakistan cricket,” he noted, expressing hope that the star batter would carry his form into the Test arena.

Sarfaraz identified experienced players such as Shan Masood, Saud Shakeel, Salman Ali Agha, and Mohammad Rizwan as the backbone of the Test side, while also backing new inclusions to continue their domestic form at the international level.

Explaining the choice of Karachi for the camp, he said conditions were selected to mirror those expected in Bangladesh. “We are preparing on different types of pitches, including seam and spin-friendly tracks, so the team is ready for all scenarios,” he said.

With a new Test cycle set to begin, Sarfaraz remained optimistic about Pakistan’s prospects. “We will try our best to deliver strong performances as a unit in Bangladesh,” he concluded.
