The Salman Mirza legal notice has sparked a major controversy in Pakistan’s cricket and media circles after the Pakistan cricketer formally accused a television broadcaster of airing a false and defamatory report.
From the original allegations to the legal action demanding PKR 100 million in damages, here is a timeline of how the situation unfolded.
The initial report
The controversy began when ARY News aired a report on March 5, 2026, claiming that a Pakistani cricketer had allegedly misbehaved with a female staff member at the team hotel during Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka in Kandy.
During the broadcast, the report suggested that the Pakistan Cricket Board had taken disciplinary action and imposed a fine on the player involved in the alleged incident.
Soon after the report circulated, speculation on social media linked the allegations to Salman Mirza, bringing the young cricketer into the centre of the controversy.
PCB denies the allegations
The Pakistan Cricket Board quickly responded to the claims through its official X (formerly Twitter) account.
In its statement, the PCB described the report as “agenda-driven fake news targeting the character of our players” and rejected the allegations entirely. The board warned that such reporting was unacceptable and demanded accountability from the reporter responsible for the story.
The board’s response effectively denied that any such disciplinary action had taken place.
Salman Mirza rejects the claims
Following the PCB’s clarification, Salman Mirza legal notice proceedings were initiated as the cricketer categorically denied the allegations.
According to the legal notice issued by his lawyers, the report broadcast by the channel was “false, baseless, and devoid of factual accuracy.” The notice states that no incident of misbehaviour ever occurred and that the PCB had not imposed any fine or disciplinary action against the player.
The document also claims the report was aired without proper verification and caused serious damage to Mirza’s reputation as a professional cricketer.
Legal notice sent to ARY News
On March 12, 2026, Mirza’s legal team formally sent a defamation notice to ARY Communications and the journalist involved in the report.
The notice demands the immediate removal of the allegedly false report from all platforms, including television broadcasts, websites, and social media channels.
It also requires the reporter to retract his statements and issue a clear and unconditional public apology.
PKR 100 million damages claim
As part of the legal action, Mirza’s lawyers have demanded PKR 100 million in damages, arguing that the broadcast harmed the cricketer’s reputation and goodwill both in Pakistan and internationally.
The notice states that if the demands are not fulfilled within seven days, the cricketer reserves the right to initiate legal proceedings in court.
Mirza speaks on social media
Mirza later confirmed the development publicly on social media, posting images of the legal notice and stating that legal action had been taken against the channel and the reporter for spreading what he described as false allegations.
The case has since generated significant discussion across social media platforms, with fans and commentators debating the responsibilities of sports journalism and the impact of unverified reports on players’ reputations.
As of now, the broadcaster has not issued an official response to the legal notice.
