Former Pakistan batting great Mohammad Yousuf stirred controversy on social media after Pakistan’s elimination from the tournament, using sharp metaphors to describe the team’s downfall and warning that the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) will not automatically restore lost pride.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Yousuf took aim at pre-tournament optimism, writing that the team had loudly declared it was “headed for the finals,” only for fans to witness what he described as “the final moments of a sinking ship.” He even compared the situation to the Titanic, questioning whether there were “enough life jackets” to survive the crisis.

The remarks came after Pakistan failed to restrict the Sri Lanka national cricket team to 147 runs in a must-win clash, sealing their exit and triggering widespread backlash from fans and former players alike.
While Yousuf attempted to strike a hopeful tone by referencing the PSL as being “around the corner,” his message carried a layer of sarcasm. He suggested that the embarrassment of the international exit might soon be forgotten once domestic cricket excitement returns — a comment that many interpreted as criticism of how quickly structural issues are brushed aside.
The PSL has often served as a morale booster for Pakistan cricket, showcasing emerging talent and energizing local crowds. However, critics argue that domestic success cannot mask persistent shortcomings in team selection, strategy, and consistency at the international level.
