As preparations intensify for HBL PSL 2026, franchises across the league have unveiled their retention lists, revealing a mix of long-term trust in star players, bold rebuild strategies, and headline-grabbing overseas signings.

Quetta Gladiators have doubled down on their bowling firepower by retaining the destructive spin duo of Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq. They’ve also secured phenomenal talents Hasan Nawaz, the breakout star of HBL PSL X in the gold category, and young PTV captain Shamyl Hussain in the emerging category, signaling a strong focus on youth development.

Karachi Kings have built a balanced retention core featuring multi-skill players. Their lineup includes:

  • Platinum: Hasan Ali

  • Diamond: Abbas Afridi

  • Gold: Khushdil Shah

  • Emerging: Saad Baig

With three bowling options and a wicket-keeper who can bat, Karachi appear focused on depth and flexibility.

Islamabad United have opted for stability by retaining their leadership and bowling strength. Shadab Khan will continue as captain, while Salman Irshad stays in the Gold category and Andries Gous is retained in Silver. Notably, the franchise has chosen not to retain any Diamond-category player, leaving room for strategic auction moves.

Lahore Qalandars have made what many fans are calling one of the strongest retention moves of the season:

  • Platinum: Shaheen Afridi

  • Diamond: Abdullah Shafique

  • Gold: Sikandar Raza

  • Silver: Mohammad Naeem

A powerful blend of pace, batting consistency, and all-round brilliance makes Lahore early title contenders on paper.

Peshawar Zalmi have reaffirmed their commitment to star power by retaining Babar Azam in the Platinum category. Supporting him are Sufian Muqeem (Diamond), Abdul Samad (Gold), and Ali Raza (Emerging), forming a solid mix of experience and youth. Fans are shocked that how could they miss out on both the star all-rounders in Saim Ayub and Maaz Sadaqat.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad have taken the boldest approach of all, opting not to retain any players. The franchise will head into the auction with a full purse, signaling a complete squad rebuild and aggressive bidding strategy.

Adding international star power, Sialkot Stallions have announced the direct signing of Australian great Steve Smith, making him one of the marquee overseas attractions of PSL 2026 under the league’s new signing model.

With major names locked in and auction drama ahead, PSL 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most competitive and unpredictable seasons in league history.
