Paris Saint-Germain were crowned UEFA Champions League winners for the second time in club history after defeating Arsenal in a dramatic penalty shootout following a tense 1-1 draw in the final at the Puskás Arena in Budapest.

The French champions endured a difficult start as Arsenal struck early through Kai Havertz, who gave the Gunners a sixth-minute lead. Arsenal’s disciplined defensive setup frustrated PSG throughout much of the first half, limiting clear-cut opportunities and forcing Luis Enrique’s side to chase the game.

PSG emerged with greater intensity after the break and were eventually rewarded when Ousmane Dembélé converted from the penalty spot to level the score and breathe new life into the contest.

The remainder of normal time developed into a tactical battle. Arsenal looked dangerous on the counterattack, while PSG dominated possession and searched for a breakthrough against a well-organized defensive block. Neither side could find a winner, sending the final into extra time.

Fatigue began to take its toll as the match wore on. The pace dropped significantly during the additional 30 minutes, with both teams struggling to maintain their earlier intensity. PSG were particularly affected, finishing the match without several key players, including Vitinha, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé, due to injuries and exhaustion.

With neither side able to separate themselves after 120 minutes, the Champions League title was decided from the penalty spot. PSG held their nerve in the shootout, displaying composure and mental resilience to secure a memorable victory and lift Europe’s most prestigious club trophy.

The triumph further enhances the legacy of head coach Luis Enrique, who now boasts three Champions League titles as a manager, having previously won the competition with Barcelona before guiding PSG to two European crowns.

For Arsenal, the defeat represents another painful near-miss in their pursuit of a first Champions League title, while PSG’s latest success reinforces their status among Europe’s elite clubs and signals the continuation of a new golden era in Paris.
