Karachi: Karachi Kings produced a thrilling run chase to defeat Lahore Qalandars by five wickets, successfully hunting down a challenging target of 199 with eight balls to spare in a must-win encounter.
The hero of the night was Khushdil Shah, whose explosive finishing turned the game on its head. With Karachi needing a late surge, Khushdil unleashed a brutal assault, smashing 37 runs off the final 10 deliveries, including boundaries against Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf. His unbeaten 44 off just 14 balls ensured Karachi snapped their losing streak in style.
Earlier in the chase, David Warner anchored the innings with a composed unbeaten 63 off 44 balls. Although he appeared fatigued towards the end, Warner held the innings together, allowing Khushdil to deliver the final blow.
Batting first, Lahore Qalandars posted a competitive 199 for 6, thanks largely to a solid 110-run opening partnership between Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique, who scored 61 and 62 respectively. The duo laid a strong foundation, putting Karachi under pressure early in the contest.
However, Karachi fought back through disciplined bowling, with Moeen Ali and Hasan Ali applying brakes during the middle overs. Late contributions from Lahore’s lower order, including quick runs from Sikandar Raza and Shaheen Afridi, pushed the total close to 200.
Despite Lahore appearing in control for most of the chase—especially after key wickets including Moeen Ali and Azam Khan fell in quick succession—Karachi staged a remarkable comeback.
The victory holds significant importance for Karachi Kings, keeping their campaign alive in the tournament and showcasing their ability to perform under pressure. Meanwhile, Lahore Qalandars will be left ruing missed opportunities, particularly in the death overs where the match slipped dramatically from their grasp.
