Pakistan surpasses Bangladesh in hitting a new low in the World Test Championship

Pakistan have fallen to the bottom of the World Test Championship (WTC) points table after being docked 11 points following the conclusion of their three-match Test series against England.

The Pakistan players were fined 50% of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate during the series, while the additional points penalty has had a major impact on their position in the championship standings.

The deduction has left Pakistan with just five points and a points percentage of 4.63, placing them ninth and last in the current WTC table.

The 4.63 percentage is also the lowest recorded by any team in a WTC cycle so far. The previous lowest mark belonged to Bangladesh, who finished the 2019–21 WTC cycle with a points percentage of 4.8.

Pakistan, however, still have matches remaining in the ongoing WTC cycle and therefore have an opportunity to move above the historic low before the championship concludes. They are scheduled to play their remaining two series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

The 11-point deduction has made Pakistan’s already difficult position considerably worse, but their current standing also reflects their results throughout the WTC cycle. With two series still to come, Pakistan will now look to improve their record and avoid finishing the championship with the lowest points percentage in WTC history.
