The HBL Pakistan Super League has formally entered a new phase of its evolution, announcing far-reaching structural reforms ahead of its 11th edition, highlighted by the introduction of a Player Auction Model for the first time in the League’s history.

After a decade of operating under a player draft system, HBL PSL 11 will adopt the auction-based format to promote greater competitive balance, enhance transparency in player acquisition, and unlock improved financial opportunities for cricketers. The move is being viewed as a defining moment in the League’s journey, aligning it with leading global T20 competitions while retaining its unique identity.

Under the revised framework, franchises will now be permitted to retain a maximum of four players, restricted to one player per category. This marks a significant shift from previous seasons, where teams could retain up to eight players along with additional provisions such as Mentors, Brand Ambassadors, and the Right to Match (RTM) option. All three mechanisms have been abolished to simplify regulations and ensure a more competitive auction environment.

To facilitate competitive balance, newly inducted teams will be allowed to select and retain four players from the available pool prior to the auction. Furthermore, each franchise will be granted one direct signing of a foreign player who did not feature in HBL PSL X, enabling teams to inject fresh international talent into their squads.

In another major boost to the League’s commercial appeal, the player salary purse has been increased to USD 1.6 million per franchise, reflecting the PSL’s growing stature and its intent to attract elite domestic and overseas players.

HBL PSL officials stated that the reforms are part of a broader strategic vision aimed at modernising the League, enhancing fan engagement, and sustaining long-term growth, while remaining committed to cricketing excellence.

The 11th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League will begin on March 26, 2026. Faisalabad has also been confirmed as an additional venue, marking its return as a host city and further expanding the League’s national footprint.

Details regarding the Player Auction process, timelines, and operational guidelines are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as the League prepares to usher in what it has termed a “new era” for Pakistan’s premier T20 competition.
