LAHORE: Pakistan will reignite one of sport’s most iconic rivalries when they face India on August 19 in the upcoming FIH Hockey World Cup 2026, following the official schedule announcement by the International Hockey Federation on Wednesday.
The tournament, set to run from August 15 to 30, will be co-hosted by Belgium and Netherlands, featuring 16 of the world’s top teams in what promises to be a spectacle of elite international hockey.
Placed in Pool D, Pakistan will face stiff competition against England, India and Wales. The Green Shirts, four-time world champions, are making their long-awaited return to the World Cup stage after an eight-year absence.
Pakistan will open their campaign against England on August 15 at the Wagener Hockey Stadium. They will then take on Wales on August 17 at the same venue before the much-anticipated showdown against India on August 19.
Having secured qualification by reaching the final of the World Cup qualifiers in Ismailia, Egypt, Pakistan will be aiming to make a strong statement on their return. Despite a 4-1 defeat to England in the qualifier final, the team showed enough promise to raise hopes of a competitive campaign.
With a challenging group and high expectations, Pakistan will be looking to progress beyond the pool stage and re-establish themselves among the elite in world hockey. The clash against India, in particular, is expected to draw massive global attention, adding another chapter to their historic rivalry.
