Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Amir is set to make an exciting return to Essex County Cricket Club for the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast 2025 season. The experienced left-arm pacer, known for his impressive skills and international exposure, aims to strengthen Essex's bowling lineup as they compete in this thrilling league.
Amir previously wore the Essex jersey from 2017 to 2019, where he proved to be a crucial player. In 21 matches during his earlier tenure, he took 24 wickets, showcasing his ability to take critical scalps. Although he didn’t participate in the knockout rounds at that time, his contributions were vital to Essex's victorious 2019 season, when the team won both the County Championship and the T20 Blast title. Interestingly, during that championship run, Amir played a key role in the semifinals, picking up three wickets at an impressive economy rate of just 6.25.
With a remarkable T20 career showcasing 371 wickets across 322 matches globally, Amir brings valuable experience back to Essex. He has also represented Pakistan in all formats, tallying 71 wickets in 62 T20 Internationals at an average of just 21.94. Notably, Amir's ability to perform under pressure has been evident—he was instrumental in helping Pakistan secure the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, taking two wickets in the final against India.

Amir's most recent playing stint was in the Pakistan Super League for Quetta Gladiators, where he secured 7 wickets in 6 matches during the 2025 season, displaying his continued form and skill. Eager to return to Chelmsford, Amir shared his excitement:
“I’m really happy to return to Essex, a place that feels like home," he expressed, highlighting his personal connection to the team.
He added, “The fans and the team have always shown great support. I’m looking forward to giving my best and helping the team do well this season.”
Amir will wear shirt number 5 and is expected to participate in all group-stage matches. If Essex qualifies for the knockout rounds, he may remain with the squad, providing additional momentum to their campaign.
