Mohammad Amir blames workload management for Shaheen Afridi’s struggles

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has expressed concern over Shaheen Shah Afridi’s recent decline in form, attributing the left-arm pacer’s struggles to poor workload management rather than a lack of ability.

Speaking during an interview, Amir recalled warning about Shaheen’s future as early as 2020 or 2021, saying he had experienced similar challenges during his own career. He claimed he had advised that continuously overplaying the young fast bowler could eventually affect his pace, consistency and fitness.

“Keep playing Shaheen Afridi like this and the time will come when he will struggle,” Amir said, adding that the 26-year-old should currently be at the peak of his career but is instead battling inconsistency.

Amir stressed that Shaheen remains a talented bowler and insisted the biggest issue is how his workload has been managed over the years. His remarks have reignited debate among fans and cricket experts over the Pakistan team’s handling of its premier fast bowlers, with many calling for a more balanced approach to ensure their long-term fitness and performance.
