Mohammad Abbas urges ICC to schedule more Test matches for Pakistan

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Abbas has called on the International Cricket Council (ICC) to allocate more Test matches to Pakistan, saying the team’s inconsistent red-ball schedule makes it difficult for players to adapt and perform consistently.

Speaking after Pakistan’s Test against the West Indies in Tarouba, Abbas agreed that Pakistan needs a busier Test calendar.

“I am with you. I told you before as well, so I am requesting the ICC as well. Please give us more Test matches,” Abbas said.

The veteran pacer pointed out that Pakistan often play only two or three Tests before facing a lengthy gap of several months, making it challenging for players to maintain rhythm and adjust to varying conditions.

“When you play two to three matches and then after six months, you are going to play another two to three Test matches, it’s hard to get used to the conditions. When you are used to the conditions, I think the series is going to be finished,” he explained.

Abbas believes a more regular Test schedule would allow Pakistan to improve their performances in the longest format.

“When you play more Test cricket, you will perform better,” he added.

Pakistan have played just four matches in the current World Test Championship cycle, fewer than several other competing nations, prompting renewed discussion over the uneven distribution of Test fixtures among Full Member teams.
