Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has launched a scathing attack on Jay Shah, the current Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), questioning his credibility and competence in global cricket administration. Latif’s remarks have resurfaced at a critical moment, as Pakistan has officially called off its high-profile T20 World Cup 2026 match against India, scheduled for 15 February 2026.

In a blunt and controversial statement, Latif criticized Shah’s qualifications, saying:

“Jay Shah’s qualifications are that he’s the son of the Indian Home Minister, and that’s it. He’s got no particular vision, no particular skills, he’s not particularly charismatic, he doesn’t have a huge track record.”

Latif’s comments come amid growing outrage over the increasing role of politics in cricket governance, particularly after the Pakistan–India fixture, one of the biggest commercial and sporting rivalries in world cricket, was scrapped due to political and administrative tensions.

The cancellation has sparked international debate over the ICC’s leadership and its ability to remain neutral under geopolitical pressure. Critics argue that the ICC, under Jay Shah’s chairmanship, has failed to safeguard the sport from political interference, while supporters claim decisions are influenced by broader diplomatic realities.

With fans, former players, and cricket boards voicing concern, the episode has once again raised serious questions about transparency, fairness, and the future of global cricket under the ICC’s current leadership.
