Imam-ul-Haq reportedly mulls legal action against former chief selector Mohammad Wasim

Pakistan batter Imam-ul-Haq has reportedly begun consultations with his legal team over remarks made by former Pakistan chief selector Mohammad Wasim regarding his injury history.

According to a report published by Daily Times, Imam is considering sending a defamation notice to Wasim after the conclusion of Pakistan’s ongoing Test series against England.

The controversy erupted after Imam was ruled out of the Lord’s Test following a left calf strain sustained while fielding. The PCB had confirmed that scans showed a low-grade calf strain.

However, speaking during a television programme, Wasim alleged that Imam had previously used injuries as an excuse to avoid playing. He specifically referred to the 2022 Multan Test against England, claiming that a team physiotherapist had warned him beforehand that Imam might report an injury.

The allegations have intensified scrutiny surrounding Imam’s latest injury, particularly after the PCB indicated that an inquiry would be conducted into the circumstances surrounding his absence from the Lord’s Test.

Importantly, Wasim’s allegations remain allegations and have not been established as fact. Imam’s reported consideration of legal proceedings could now take the dispute beyond cricket and into the legal arena.

If Imam proceeds with the reported defamation action, the matter could become another major off-field controversy surrounding Pakistan cricket.
