Gillespie questions Pakistan’s selection strategy, calls for Aqib Javed to take responsibility

Former Pakistan bowling coach Jason Gillespie has expressed serious concern over the recent changes within the Pakistan cricket team, questioning the selection strategy and calling on chief selector Aqib Javed to take responsibility for the current situation.

Gillespie said there appears to be no clear selection strategy within the Pakistan team, with the selection committee seemingly changing its decisions on a daily basis.

“Players are playing with fear,” Gillespie said, adding that he felt sympathy for the cricketers because cricket is their livelihood.

The former coach also questioned Aqib Javed’s role, pointing out that he has served as Pakistan’s chief selector for the past two years and should therefore accept responsibility for the current state of affairs.

Gillespie also criticised the way players were informed about changes to the Test squad during the England tour. He claimed that some players learned they had been dropped through the media, friends or family.

“How disrespectful is it for a player to find out through the media that they have been dropped?” he questioned.

Gillespie further highlighted the treatment of Salman Ali Agha, who captained Pakistan in the first Test against England, was left out of the squad for the second Test and was then sent home before the third Test.

“How can that happen?” Gillespie questioned, expressing disbelief at the lack of consistency

in Pakistan’s selection decisions.

His comments add to growing criticism surrounding Pakistan cricket’s selection process and the management of the national team.
