Pakistan’s humiliating defeat against the Bangladesh national cricket team in the first ODI triggered sharp reactions from several former cricketers on social media, with many questioning the team’s batting performance after a crushing loss in Dhaka.
Playing the opening match of the three-game ODI series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, the Pakistan national cricket team suffered a dramatic batting collapse and were bowled out for 114 in 30.4 overs. Pakistan’s innings never gained momentum as wickets fell regularly against Bangladesh’s pace attack.
Young fast bowler Nahid Rana produced a sensational spell, dismantling Pakistan’s batting line-up with a five-wicket haul, which proved decisive in the match.
Chasing a modest target of 115, Bangladesh comfortably reached 115/2 in just 15.1 overs, sealing an eight-wicket victory with 209 balls remaining to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

The defeat quickly sparked reactions from former Pakistan cricketers on X (formerly Twitter). Former pacer Abdur Rouf Khan praised the Bangladeshi youngster’s performance, writing:
“Young fast and furious Nahid Rana destroyed the Pakistani batting line in his 5 overs spell. What an outstanding spell of fast bowling by young Rana.”
He also said that:
“According to my knowledge and observation Shaheen Afridi is still struggling to regain his form and fitness.
If he has to field in two full 50 over matches and complete ten overs of his quota, it will be very difficult for him to survive with this fitness.
Making him ODI captain is sheer mistake committed by the think tank of Pakistan cricket Board. It seems people running the matters are completely ignorant about the background and workload management of the players. Their decisions are terrible and taking Pakistan cricket towards disaster.”

Former Pakistan batter Bazid Khan described the result as a “complete mauling,” suggesting Bangladesh have begun their preparations for the ODI World Cup in style while Pakistan still appear far from ready.

Meanwhile, former fast bowler Tanveer Ahmed pointed out technical weaknesses in Pakistan’s batting. In his tweet, he said that the arrival of a strong fast bowler exposed Pakistan’s new batting talent, particularly against bouncers.

Another reaction that quickly went viral came from former Pakistan left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir, who summed up the frustration of many fans with:
“Yeah kia ho rha hai bhee🙄”
Pakistan, currently led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, now face serious questions about their batting depth and preparation, especially with major international tournaments approaching.
With Bangladesh already 1-0 up in the three-match ODI series, Pakistan will need a strong comeback in the second ODI to avoid further criticism and keep the series alive.
