Pakistan cricket fans have raised serious questions over the exclusion of Saad Baig from the national squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, despite the teenager’s outstanding domestic performances.

The 19-year-old wicketkeeper-batter was one of the most consistent performers in the 2025–26 edition of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, widely regarded as the country’s premier red-ball competition. His omission has sparked debate among fans, many of whom believe Pakistan’s selectors have overlooked a deserving young talent.

Baig enjoyed a breakthrough season, scoring 1000 runs in 10 matches at an average of 55.55, including four centuries and three half-centuries, with a highest score of 154. His performances not only made him the leading run-scorer of the tournament but also earned him the Player of the Tournament award.

In addition to his batting heroics, Baig impressed behind the stumps with over 30 dismissals, showcasing his all-round value as a modern wicketkeeper-batter. Supporters argue that such consistent performances in domestic cricket should have been enough to secure him a place in the Test squad.

Critics of the selection, however, suggest that the team management has opted for experience for the Bangladesh tour, delaying the youngster’s inclusion. Still, many fans feel that ignoring a 19-year-old in such dominant form sends the wrong message about the pathway from domestic cricket to the national side.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has not issued a detailed explanation regarding Baig’s exclusion, but the decision has intensified discussions over selection policies and the importance of rewarding performances in Pakistan’s domestic structure.

As Pakistan prepare for the Bangladesh series, the debate continues, with Saad Baig’s name firmly at the center of the conversation.
