Pakistan cricket fans have expressed frustration over the exclusion of Rohail Nazir from the Test squad for the upcoming series, questioning the logic behind dropping a player who was recently part of the squad against South Africa but did not get a single opportunity to play.

Nazir, a promising wicketkeeper-batter and former Pakistan U-19 captain, was included in the squad for the South Africa series, raising expectations that he was being groomed for a long-term role in red-ball cricket. However, despite staying with the squad throughout the series, he was not given a debut, and has now been left out entirely—sparking criticism from fans and analysts alike.

Supporters argue that such treatment reflects inconsistency in selection policies, where a player is first picked, then sidelined without being tested, and eventually dropped without any clear explanation. Many believe that if Nazir was not in immediate plans, he should not have been included in the squad in the first place.

Nazir, a former Pakistan U-19 captain, has long been considered a promising red-ball option. However, his latest omission has sparked debate, especially given his solid first-class record and experience in domestic cricket.

In his first-class career so far, Rohail Nazir has featured in 52 matches and 76 innings, scoring 2470 runs at an average of 34.78, including a highest score of 207. He has registered 7 centuries and 14 half-centuries, along with 148 catches and 23 stumpings, highlighting his value as a reliable wicketkeeper-batter in the longer format.

Adding to the debate is the inclusion of Ghazi Ghauri ahead of Nazir. Critics have pointed out the stark contrast in experience and performance between the two players, particularly in red-ball cricket.

In comparison, Ghazi Ghauri’s numbers remain relatively modest, with limited exposure at the top level and far fewer runs in domestic cricket. Informal comparisons circulating among fans suggest that while Nazir has accumulated well over 1500 runs in red-ball cricket, Ghauri’s tally is significantly lower, highlighting the gap in experience and performance.

The decision has led to widespread debate, with fans questioning whether merit and domestic performance are being given due importance in the selection process. Many have also raised concerns about the impact such decisions may have on player confidence and development pathways.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has yet to clarify the rationale behind the selection, but the controversy once again underscores the ongoing scrutiny surrounding team selection and consistency in Pakistan cricket.

As discussions continue, Rohail Nazir’s omission has become a talking point, with many believing that the young wicketkeeper deserved at least one opportunity before being dropped from the national setup.
