Pakistan’s dramatic three-wicket victory over the Netherlands in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 opener produced a standout performance from Faheem Ashraf, who played a decisive role in steering his side home under intense pressure.

Speaking in a post-match interview with Salman Mirza, Faheem described the emotional significance of delivering a match-winning performance in what marked his first T20 World Cup appearance after a long international career.

“I can’t describe my feelings,” Faheem said. “To perform like this in your first World Cup, especially in the opening match, is something very special. I feel lucky and grateful to Allah.”

The all-rounder was instrumental during the tense final overs, scoring crucial runs when Pakistan needed 30 off the last two overs. Faheem credited the team’s preparation, communication, and unity for their calmness in a high-pressure chase.

“Our team has been playing together for the last one year,” he explained. “The bonding, communication, and trust between the players helped us in crucial moments. We always believed the match was within reach.”

Faheem revealed that even from the dugout, he never felt Pakistan had lost control of the game, underlining the confidence and belief within the squad.

“Honestly, even for a second, I didn’t feel the match had slipped away,” he said. “This shows the trust we have in each other — whether someone is batting or bowling, we back them fully.”

He also highlighted the team’s consistent preparation through recent tournaments, including the Asia Cup and bilateral series, noting that Pakistan’s success was built on collective effort rather than individual brilliance alone.

Comparing ICC events with regular bilateral series, Faheem acknowledged the heightened pressure and prestige that comes with World Cup cricket.

“An ICC event is a big stage,” he said. “The intensity, expectations, and pressure are on another level.”

Pakistan’s narrow win over the Netherlands has given them an early boost in the tournament, with Faheem Ashraf’s composure and late-innings impact emerging as a key positive as they build momentum in the T20 World Cup campaign.
