Ousmane Dembélé produced a masterclass with a sensational hat-trick as France defeated a heavily rotated Norway side 4-1 to finish top of Group I with a perfect record at the FIFA World Cup.
France wasted no time asserting their dominance, coming within inches of taking the lead after just 22 seconds. Kylian Mbappé rattled the underside of the crossbar with a fierce effort after bursting in from the right, narrowly missing what would have been one of the fastest goals in World Cup history.
The breakthrough eventually arrived after sustained French pressure. Dembélé opened the scoring with a powerful right-footed strike from inside the penalty area that gave goalkeeper Egil Selvik no chance.
Norway had an excellent opportunity to draw level when Jørgen Strand Larsen volleyed over from close range, and France punished the miss ruthlessly. A lightning-fast counterattack ended with Dembélé curling a brilliant finish into the far corner to double Les Bleus’ advantage.
The game continued at a frantic pace. Just seconds after the restart from France’s second goal, Thelo Aasgaard reduced the deficit with a superb strike from the edge of the box after creating space with clever footwork.
However, France quickly restored their two-goal cushion before halftime as Dembélé completed a stunning first-half hat-trick, cutting onto his favored left foot before bending another exquisite finish beyond Selvik.
Norway were handed a lifeline early in the second half when Theo Hernández conceded a penalty after bringing down Oscar Bobb inside the area. But Mike Maignan preserved France’s lead by producing an outstanding save to deny Strand Larsen from the spot, becoming the first goalkeeper to stop a penalty at this World Cup.
Despite creating a handful of chances through Bobb and Aasgaard, Norway were unable to mount a comeback. France capped off an outstanding performance deep into stoppage time when Désiré Doué headed home a fourth goal to seal an emphatic victory.

The result sees France finish top of Group I after winning all three of their group-stage matches for the first time since their triumphant 1998 World Cup campaign. Norway, despite the defeat, also progress to the Round of 32, where they will face Ivory Coast.
Flashscore Man of the Match: Ousmane Dembélé (France).
