EDINBURGH: Scotland have announced their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, marking their seventh appearance at the global tournament, with Richie Berrington set to lead the side under newly appointed head coach Owen Dawkins.

The European outfit will feature in the tournament being jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8, after replacing Bangladesh, who opted out of the event due to security concerns amid ongoing political tensions between New Delhi and Dhaka.

Scotland’s inclusion adds another chapter to their growing presence at the T20 World Cup, having previously competed in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007, held in South Africa. Since then, they have established themselves as a competitive Associate side capable of challenging higher-ranked teams.

One of the notable selections is Zainullah Ihsan, who has received his maiden call-up to the national side. The Afghan-born fast bowler recently completed his qualification process and will be looking to make an immediate impact on the world stage.

The squad also features experienced batter Tom Bruce, a former New Zealand international who adds depth and power to Scotland’s batting line-up. The 34-year-old represented the Black Caps in 17 T20 Internationals before switching his allegiance to Scotland, and his inclusion is expected to strengthen the middle order.

Captain Richie Berrington will be supported by a balanced squad combining experience and youth, with established names such as George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Mark Watt and Michael Leask forming the core of the side. All-rounders Brandon McMullen and Chris Greaves are also expected to play key roles across departments.

Scotland’s selected squad includes: Richie Berrington (captain), Tom Bruce, Matthew Cross, Bradley Currie, Oliver Davidson, Chris Greaves, Zainullah Ihsan, Michael Jones, Michael Leask, Finlay McCreath, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Mark Watt and Bradley Wheal.

Jasper Davidson and Jack Jarvis have been named as travelling reserves, while Mackenzie Jones, Chris McBride and Charlie Tear will serve as non-travelling reserves.

With a new coaching setup and several fresh faces, Scotland will be aiming to make a strong impression at the T20 World Cup and build on their growing reputation in international cricket.
