KARACHI: Captain Babar Azam produced a calm and commanding performance to guide Peshawar Zalmi to a convincing victory over Quetta Gladiators in the 23rd match of the Pakistan Super League at the National Stadium on Wednesday.

Chasing a modest target of 155, Zalmi reached 156 for the loss of just two wickets in 18.3 overs, with Babar remaining unbeaten on 71 to steer his side home with authority.

Earlier, Quetta Gladiators struggled to build momentum after being asked to bat first, eventually posting 154 all out in their 20 overs. Hasan Nawaz top-scored with 37, while Rilee Rossouw chipped in with 26, but the innings lacked sustained partnerships.

Zalmi’s bowlers kept the pressure on throughout, with Mohammad Basit and Sufiyan Muqeem emerging as the standout performers. Both bowlers picked up three wickets each, ensuring the Gladiators were restricted to a below-par total despite a few late attempts to accelerate.

In response, Mohammad Haris gave Zalmi a brisk start with an aggressive 35, setting the tone for the chase. Babar Azam then took control, pacing the innings expertly and finding boundaries at crucial moments to keep the required rate in check.

Kusal Mendis contributed a steady 21 before departing, while Aaron Hardie remained unbeaten on 18 to support his captain and seal the win.

Zalmi never looked under pressure during the chase, maintaining control from the outset. Babar’s composed knock once again highlighted his leadership and batting prowess, as Zalmi secured another important win in the tournament.
