Asim Khan secures Pakistan’s first-ever MMA medal at Asian Games

Pakistan’s Asim Khan has created history by securing the country’s first-ever Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) medal at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Competing in the Modern MMA 60kg category, Asim defeated Cambodia’s Sopanha Pheng in the quarter-final to book his place in the semi-finals and guarantee Pakistan a historic medal in the sport.

The Pakistan Mixed Martial Arts Federation (PMMAF) congratulated Asim and his official coach, Dilawar Khan Sumnan, on the landmark achievement.

PMMAF President Zulfiqar Ali said Asim’s performance was a memorable moment for Pakistani MMA and expressed hope that the fighter would continue his impressive run and challenge for the gold medal.

“Asim Khan has already proved his ability as an Asian silver medallist and World bronze medallist. We are confident that with his hard work, experience and determination, he can take this achievement further and make a strong bid for gold,” Zulfiqar Ali said.

The federation also thanked the Pakistan Olympic Association, Pakistan Sports Board, officials, coaches, athletes and supporters for their continued backing of MMA in the country.

With the medal already secured, Asim’s campaign is not over. He will now compete in the semi-final, with Pakistan hoping he can advance further and turn the historic medal into a gold.
