Pakistan’s cricket leadership has taken responsibility for the national team’s underwhelming performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, admitting that expectations were much higher going into the tournament.
During a press conference, Pakistan head coach Aqib Javed said the management had strong hopes that the Pakistan national cricket team would at least secure a place in the semi-finals.
“We were quite hopeful that this team would at least reach the semi-final of the T20 World Cup; however, things didn’t turn out the way we wanted,” Javed said. “We are not shying away from taking the responsibility for this performance.”
The head coach emphasized that the team management and selection committee accept accountability for the campaign and will review what went wrong in order to improve moving forward.
Former Pakistan captain and member of the selection setup Misbah-ul-Haq also addressed the media, stressing that mistakes are a part of cricket but learning from them is crucial for long-term progress.
“Mistakes do happen, and sometimes even after captaining a side for 10 years, you still end up making the same mistakes,” Misbah said. “It’s all about how you come back and not replicate the same mistakes again.”
He added that inconsistency in processes often leads to repeated failures, highlighting the importance of maintaining a stable and disciplined approach within the team environment.
“If you are not consistent in the process, then mistakes are likely to happen again and again,” he explained.
The comments come as Pakistan cricket faces intense scrutiny following the team’s early exit from the tournament, with fans and analysts calling for improvements in planning, selection strategy, and on-field execution.
